About Us and Our Dogs
Brett and Jane Brogan have a love affair with Scotland, starting of course with the Border Collie.
The term Dog & Whistle derives from our affinity for Scotland, starting with our first visit when we married in the Scottish Highlands in the town of Oban, County Argyll.
Other visits included a holiday on a working sheep farm where Jane and her dog, Slip, won a herding trial and hiking the West Highland Way, a 95 mile way-marked trail from Glasgow to Fort William.

About the Dog & Whistle
With the saltire of St. Andrew flying overhead, we’ve amused ourselves over the years by referring to our home as the “Dog & Thistle”. Since we use whistle commands on our dogs, it was a wee step from being the Dog & Thistle to becoming the Dog & Whistle.    Click here for our Scottish links page.
The Dog & Whistle, working through a network of animal shelters and rescue organizations, have fostered and placed hundreds of Border Collies into loving homes. Most dogs that come into rescue readily fit into a typical family lifestyle. Some rescue dogs are additionally suited for agility competition, sheep herding, and, lo and behold, goose control work. These are the more energetic, obsessive, and compulsive dogs, and we love them so!
Pictured at left and below is our staff, present and past, all rescued from animal shelters.
